Devan Downey, SC Stun Kentucky:Devan Downey scored 30 points and South Carolina sent top-ranked Kentucky to its first loss of the season with a 68-62 home victory last night.
The Wildcats (19-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) didn’t count on Downey, the SEC’s leading scorer, to break the 30-point mark for the fourth time in six league games for South Carolina (12-8, 3-3).
Michigan St. 57, Michigan 56 – Kalin Lucas made a jumper with 3.5 seconds left, lifting the No. 5 Spartans (18-3, 8-0 Big Ten) over the host Wolverines (10-10, 3-5).
West Virginia 62, De Paul 46 – Da’Sean Butler and Wellington Smith scored 14 points apiece to lead the No. 9 Mountaineers (16-3, 5-2 Big East) over the host Blue Demons.
Kansas State 76, Baylor 74 – Jacob Pullen made two free throws with 8.2 seconds left and scored 25 points, lifting the No. 11 Wildcats (17-3, 4-2 Big 12) on the road and snapping an 11-game winning streak for the No. 24 Bears (15-4, 2-3).
UAB 65, Tulsa 55 – Elijah Mill sap had 19 points and 12 rebounds and helped push the No. 25 Blazers (18-2, 6-0 Conference USA) over the visiting Golden Hurricane (16-4, 5-1).
Rhode Island 65, Dayton 64 - Marquis Jones hit a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left to lift the Rams (16-3, 4-2 Atlantic 10), snapping the Flyers’ 30-game home winning streak.
Women’s basketball
UConn 73, Rutgers 36 – Maya Moore had 19 points to help the top-ranked Huskies win their 59th straight game.
Kalana Greene added 17 points for host UConn (20-0, 7-0 Big East), which has won every game in the streak by at least 10.
Hartford 38, Vermont 36 – Diana Delva’s layup with 3 seconds left gave her 20 points and gave the visiting Hawks (17-3, 8-0 America East) the low-scoring victory over the Catamounts (16-5, 6-2), maintaining sole possession of the conference lead.
